Reading Practice · English learners need to practice reading daily to develop vocabulary, fluency and reading comprehension. Your child will bring home books that are on his or her independent reading level to practice at home. Picture books should be read at least 3 times each. Please encourage your child to discuss what was read. Please contact the EL teacher if your child does not bring home books to practice reading.
Math Practice · You can help your child at home by helping him or her to memorize math facts. o First Grade-Addition facts to 20 and subtraction facts from 20. o Third grade-Multiplication facts 1-12. o Fourth grade-Division facts by 1-12. Encourage your child to share how he or she solved the problem. Share your own strategy if it was different from your child’s strategy. Example-My gas tank holds 16 gallons of gas. I filled my tank with 14 gallons. How much was left in the tank before I filled up? Example- We want to buy enough cookies for the party for each guest to eat 2. Cookies come in packs of 24 cookies. How many packs do I need for 27 guests?
